Why Standardizing the NEST (Non-Emergency Stretcher Transport) is Important?

by admin

It is surprising that only a handful of non-emergency medical transport (NEMT) service providers are actually capable and trained to do non-medical stretcher transport (NEST). In brief, NEST is simply transporting a person on a supine position using a vehicle that is constructed for such service. Moreover, the person being transported must not have an emergency medical condition where in the medical attention must be provider or anticipated to be given by the driver.

To date, only a handful of states have a set of standards to follow. The first state ever to come up with NEST protocols isWashington. Other places like Alaska,Florida,Oregon and New York have the basic processes and guidelines to follow but improvements on must still be made. Of course continues honing of the protocols will ensure safer and more organized implementation of NEST service.
